When everyone suddenly wants a piece of you, whom do you trust? This is the heart of Lauren Conrad’s first novel L.A. Candy. Who could know more about this subject then the girl from The Hills?
Jane Roberts just moved to Los Angels with her best friend Scarlett Harp. She has an internship with Fiona Chen, a famous celebrity wedding and party planner, and Scarlett is a freshman at the University of Southern California. They are trying to figure out how to blend in to a place where neither of them feels like they belong. One night at Les Deux, a hot nightclub, a TV producer, Trevor Lord, approaches them about being on the new PopTV reality TV show, L.A. Candy. The show becomes an overnight success and the girls are rocketed into the world of fame and stardom. They soon come to realize that the grass isn’t always greener in the land of glitz and glamour.
At first, I didn’t expect this book to be any good but it proved me wrong. The descriptions of the locations and wardrobe are so vivid that you can actually picture it in your head. I actually found myself getting lost in the story and characters. It was interesting to get a inside look into what it is like to be on a reality TV show and what you go through when you are on one. The book is a fast and decent read for the beach or a rainy day over the summer. I hope that you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was by this novel. I would recommend this book for girls in their teens or early twenties or anyone that watches The Hills.
