Beverly Hills Chihuahua

If you’re thinking, “Ugh, not another movie with computer generated talking animals” you’d be correct.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua is an exact carbon copy of almost any other computer generated or animated Hollywood effort starring some cute and not so cute talking animals.

I’ve often wondered how producers can keep selling the same movie to studios over and over again, but with the lack of suitable family offerings readily available and a box office cash register ring of over $ 95 million BEFORE DVD, it’s not difficult to see why the parade will continue.

Drew Barrymore, go figure, is the voice of the spoiled pooch “Chloe” in Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Like a doggy version of “Home Alone 2” the snobby dog is lost while on vacation in Mexico. The omnipresent George Lopez familiar to legions of kids for his Nickelodeon fame, plays the tough Mexican canine Papi who makes it his personal goal to return Chloe back home.

Just like the fable of the city mouse and country mouse did for the last one hundred years, our little lost dog must learn that life is not a bed of roses. Papi, along with his stereotypically voice Latino friends, experience their share of mayhem while our heroine toughens up and sees existence from “the other side.”

The movie follows the strict Disney formula of “little script = big money” and “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” is no different. There’s a star packed movie with really cute animals. Sprinkle in a great kid or cause and top with a parcel of bumbling villains. Finally, add in pratfalls and all is good in the movie world.

Curiously, with all of the recent Michael Vick controversy, that Disney would chose the subplot of dog fighting as a story arc for a kid’s movie. Oh, well. Maybe the powers to be at Disney hope that this forgettable movie is quickly forgotten.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua elicits laughs from the little ones and yawns from the parents watching. This uneven delivery earns two out of five leashes.
