Groovaloo Makes its Philadelphia Debut, March 9-14 at the Merriam Theater |
| |
Award-winning dance phenomenon, the Groovaloos, best known for their breakout performance on NBC's "Superstars of Dance" and appearances on FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," will bring their electric dance stage show, GROOVALOO, to the Merriam Theater on March 9 – March 14. The press opening will be Tuesday, March 9 at 7:30 pm. Visit Groovaloo.com for a video preview.
Tickets range in price from $25 to $59.50 and can be purchased by calling 215-731-3333, online at www.kimmelcenter.org, at the Kimmel Center box office, Broad & Spruce Sts. (open daily 10 am to 6 pm), or at the Merriam Theater box office, 250 S. Broad St. (open during performances only). Special group pricing for select performances is available for groups of 15 or more by calling 215-790-5883. Performances include: Tuesday – Thursday evening at 7:30pm; Friday & Saturday evening at 8pm; Sunday evening at 6:30pm; and matinees Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 1pm.
Based on the troupe's true-to-life experiences as told by the dancers who lived them, GROOVALOO combines jaw-dropping displays of physicality with heart-pounding music and powerful stories that chronicle the struggles, hopes and triumphs of the 14-member cast. GROOVALOO celebrates the passion and purpose of life while revealing the heart, soul and artistry of freestyle dance.
"We created GROOVALOO as a new form of entertainment that truly blurs the lines between theater and dance," said creator Bradley Rapier. "The story is told through movement, though we also feature spoken word poetry as well as compelling stories which add to the show's theatricality. In some cases, dance literally saved people's lives -- each performer has a story to share, and that's where the real connection is made with the audience."
