New Shows Rock the World Cafe Live Line-up

Easy Star All-Stars are best known for their eclectic blend of reggae music and mainstream hits. They will perform music from Dub Side of the Moon, Radiodread, Lonely Hearts Dub Band and more. The masterminds behind the All-Stars are Easy Star musical director Michael Goldwasser (a.k.a. Michael G), his production partner Victor Axelrod (a.k.a. Ticklah), and his two Easy Star label partners Eric Smith and Lem Oppenheimer. These four were the team behind the album Dub Side of the Moon (2003), which was a complete reggae re-vision of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. That record has been locked on the Billboard charts for over 3 years. Opening for the band is Philly’s renowned ska band, Ruder Than You. Downstairs Live, Friday, April 2nd, 7:30 PM, tickets are $19 - $24.

South Mempthis String Band are performing Upstairs Live on Friday, April 2nd at 9:00 PM. Formed by Luther Dickinson’s [of North Mississippi Allstars], Jimbo Mathus [of Squirrel Nut Zippers] and Grammy-winning bluesman Alvin Youngblood Hart, this trio is a force of nature and perhaps the best modern purveyor of the early Delta blues alive today. The South Memphis String Band was greatly influenced by the Mississippi Sheiks, Gus Cannon & the Memphis Jug Band and other string bands and jug bands of their ilk, as well as Mississippi Delta and Hill Country blues. They will travel with a passel of guitars, mandolins, banjos, lap steel guitars and harmonicas. Tickets are $18 - $21.

Over the course of their 30-plus year career, The Holmes Brothers have been feeding the souls of their devoted and ever-growing fan-base with a joyous and moving blend of blues, gospel, soul, R&B, rock ‘n’ roll and country. Their amazing three-part harmony singing, mixing gruff and gravelly vocals with soaring falsetto and rich baritone brings the soul and spirit of gospel music into everything they perform. Equally gripping is the rhythmic bass, drumming, blues-soaked guitar solos and church-inspired piano playing. The band easily blends Saturday night’s roadhouse rock with the gospel fervor and harmonies of Sunday morning’s church service. Downstairs Live, Saturday, April 3rd, 7:30 PM, tickets are $19 - $24.
