Allison Moorer & Tift Merritt at World Cafe Live

On Friday, June 11th, WXPN welcomes alt-country singer Allison Moorer to World Cafe Live located at 3025 Walnut St., Philadelphia.

For the first time in her nearly decade-long career, Allison Moorer wrote every song on her new album (her second for Sugar Hill), produced by husband Steve Earle. What emerged from her pen -- and her guitar -- are ten melodic rock 'n' roll gems, succinctly stated in just under 32 minutes. "I didn't worry about who was going to like it or what was expected of me. I had a revelation that it was all right to express myself. When I listen to these songs, I can hear myself growing by leaps and bounds from the time I wrote the first song to the time I finished the last one.”

Allison is also the younger sister of country singer Shelby Lynne who performed here on May 9th with Findlay Brown.

On Tuesday, June 15th, WXPN welcomes Tift Merritt and Jason Collett. See You On the Moon is Tift Merritt's most visceral work to date. A deeply centered departure, these focused and creative musical short stories find Tift at the height of her powers.

In her nascent career, Tift Merritt has already produced an impressive body of work and earned a passionate, dedicated audience. Her live performances, both with her band and on her own, are similarly riveting. Tift's preceding albums are 2002's debut Bramble Rose, 2005's Grammy nominated Tambourine, and 2008's widely acclaimed Another Country. 2010's stellar See You On The Moon, to be released June 1st is a most important step forward in a remarkable artistic journey that continues to search, penetrate, and surprise. Her new album is Paste Magazine’s #5 album they’re looking forward to this Summer.
