Dan Bern & Sarah Harmer at World Cafe Live next weekend!

Folk singer-songwriters Dan Bern and Sarah Harmer are playing at World Cafe Live next weekend.

Guitarist Dan Bern, performing on Friday, June 25th, is a singer-songwriter whose music has often been compared to that of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Elvis Costello.

He’s been doing this music thing for a while – well, long enough to have written over 600 songs and have 17 studio albums under his belt! In 2007, Bern's 2006 album Breathe won in the 6th Annual Independent Music Awards for Best Folk/Singer-Songwriter Album.

Several of his songs appear on the new Russell Brand and Jonah Hill movie soundtrack, Get Him To The Greek, in theaters now. He also helped write 16 songs for the movie, Walk Hard.

Supporting his gig here in Philadelphia is Common Rotation.

Canadian singer-songwriter, Sarah Harmer is performing downstairs on Saturday, June 26th. On oh little fire, her first album in four years, Sarah Harmer sounds reinvigorated and positively charged. In the years after touring her last studio release, the Polaris Prize-nominated I'm a Mountain, she set music aside to focus on political and environmental campaigns, helping to shepherd PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land), the organization she co-founded. Only on occasion did she venture into the studio, lending backup vocals to artists such as Neko Case and Great Lake Swimmers. Her own music and lyrics were waiting for the opportune time to burst out: as she sings on "Careless," "All the words that I've held too close to my chest / Are calling on me now to get through."
