Country singer Marty Stuart at World Cafe Live 8/31!

Country singer Marty Stuart to perform in Philadelphia on Tuesday, August 31st at World Cafe Live.

More than 40 years in the music industry and Marty Stuart has way more than just his country tunes under his belt. With multiple side projects ranging from hosting his own television program to compiling a photography book, he’s not your normal “triple threat”.

His music career, which started at age 12 recording at the famous RCA Studio B, boasts some brief years with Mr. Johnny Cash in his back band and his solo career which earned him the AMA Lifetime Achievement Award for Performing in 2005, is still very much active. Stuart is set to release a new album Ghost Train: The Studio B Sessions, on August 24th – just in time for his show at World Cafe Live!

Throughout the years Stuart explored other music genres from Gospel to Native American sounds but on his new album he returns to his famous traditional country roots. Recorded with his band, The Superlatives, the album features a duet with wife and Grand Ole Opry singer Connie Smith and a track written with Mr. Cash days before his passing in 2003.

Adam Sheets of No Depression’s review of the new album suggests that there is little to no disappointment from this album – “a solid collection of country tunes with a dash of rootsy rock and roll here and there...This time there is more of a focus on history than ever before and we get all of the classic country archetypes: the train songs, the prison songs, a duet, a few sad ballads, a gospel number, and even a few instrumentals. Marty Stuart is keeping the spirit of country music alive within Nashville. It's a fight he can't win, but he'll go to his grave trying and as I stated at the beginning, all young musicians can take a lesson or two from this album.”

Opening for Marty Stuart is New Jersey’s Danielle Darrow who you might remember performing here with Jack Ingram back in April.
