Mexican Independence Day 2010  |

Viva Mexico! …. The Bicentennial celebration of the Mexican Independence will take place on, Sunday, September 12th from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. with the biggest traditional fiesta Philadelphia has ever seen! This celebration uses important dates to revive the values and ideals that shaped the Mexican nation. The free Fiesta will take place on the RiverStage at Penn’s Landing, located on Columbus Boulevard at Chestnut Street and is part of the 2010 PECO Multicultural Series at Penn’s Landing.
The Mexican Cultural Center is non-profit organization that organizes Mexican Independence Day every year and who works closely with the Mexican Consulate, with a common goal to give modern meaning to their cultural history.
The 2010 Festival promises new and exciting entertainment, while beginning with the traditional “Grito de Independencia,” a shout led by the Consul of Mexico in Philadelphia, commemorating the beginning of the fight that led Mexico to freedom.
The RiverStage will come alive with Mexican inspired entertainment including Folkloric Ballet Yaretzi, Battle of Mariachi Flores versus Mariachi Halcones, Fuego Nuevo Aztec Dancing, and live music by Conjunto Atardecer. Other entertainment includes a singing contest, San Mateo Carnavalero’s costumed parade, meet and greet with Philadelphia Union players and a live DJ. Visitors can also meet Univision’s Illia García and the on air personalities of La Super 1360 AM Radio, who will be broadcasting live from the Festival.
Other highlights of the Mexican Independence Day festival will include authentic Mexican food while arts and crafts vendors will line the Great Plaza. There will also be raffles and prizes throughout the day.
Renowned Mexican muralist César Viveros, will work with children at the festival to create a giant mural, while clowns entertain through face painting, balloons and more. The Clay Studio will host an interactive booth, inviting children to mold clay into various symbols for Mexican Independence.
The Mexican Independence Day Festival is one of the largest attended celebrations of the PECO Multicultural Series and supporters include: the Mexican Consulate, Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, PECO, Pennsylvania Lottery, Univision, State Farm, The Clay Studio, the Philadelphia Union, 860AM ESPN Sports, El Paisano Tortillas, Corona, and 1360AM.
Admission is FREE for all PECO Multicultural Series events. KYW Newsradio, CBS 3 and CW Philly along with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com are proud media partners of the series.

The 2010 Summer Program of Free Events at Penn’s Landing is funded and produced by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC). All events produced by DRWC are FREE to the public on the new RiverStage on the Great Plaza, the heart of Penn's Landing, Philadelphia’s premier Delaware River waterfront entertainment destination. The DRWC is a nonprofit corporation created in January 2009, exclusively for the benefit of the City of Philadelphia and its citizens. The fundamental purpose of DRWC is to design, develop and manage the central Delaware River waterfront in Philadelphia. DRWC intends to transform the waterfront into a vibrant destination location for recreational, cultural, and commercial activities for the residents and visitors of Philadelphia.
