Axl Rose Says "War" With UK Promoter "Not Over"
Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose is taking aim at an English concert promoter over the band's abbreviated gigs at the UK's Reading and Leeds Festivals over the weekend. Organizers cut short GNR's shows on Friday and Sunday after they played past a curfew, due to the band's late start on both nights. On Sunday, as the band's set wrapped in Leeds, Rose suggested that his "war" with event organizers was not yet over. According to NME.com, Axl later took to his Twitter post to say that the band had a "deal in place" to play past their alloted time slots and suggested that they may have been conned by the promoter. He wrote, quote, "So u know, we allegedly had a deal in place pre show w/the city at least at Leeds to do a bit longer performance that was either miscommunication, someone wasn't informed, changed their mind, didn't care or [it] was a con." Promoter Melvin Benn denies such a deal existed. He told NME.com, quote, "Bands often say things like that when they are curtailed." Prior to their appearance at the festival, Benn had warned Guns N' Roses that he would not put up with them playing past their 11:30 p.m. curfew. Despite Axl's declaration of "war," Benn says his feud with the band was "not personal." He said he would, quote, "definitely book them again." Meanwhile, the show goes on for Guns N' Roses tonight. The band is scheduled to play the O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
