Wyclef Jean Attacks Critics Pras, Sean Penn
Rapper Wyclef Jean has something to say to his critics, namely actor Sean Penn and former Fugees rapper Pras Michel. According to MTV.com, the former Haitian presidential hopeful used his performance at a New York City concert on Friday night to take a few jabs against them. Wyclef said, quote, "I got a message for Sean Penn: Maybe he ain't see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine." The rapper shared those choice words while ad-libbing to his 2004 track, "President" at Hot 97's On The Reggae Tip Concert. He also took a shot at his former Fugees group member, saying, quote, "I got a message for [Pras], even though you don't want to support me, I got love for you, even though you only kicked eight bars in the Fugees." In his criticism of Wyclef's attempted presidential run, Penn said he never saw "'Clef" present during Haiti's rebuilding efforts and accused him of coming around only when cameras were rolling. Pras, meantime, threw his support behind Haitian presidential candidate Michel Martelly and said at the time that Wyclef's plans for the island nation lacked specifics. The rapper announced his run for President of Haiti last month but his campaign was short-lived after he was ruled ineligible. The country's provisional electoral council, the CEP, quickly ruled that Jean did not meet the residency requirements to run for the presidency.
