Merle Haggard Among 2010 Kennedy Center Honorees
Merle Haggard is among those slated to be recognized later this year at the 33rd annual Kennedy Center Honors. At the event the country legend will be sharing the spotlight with Oprah Winfrey and Paul McCartney, as well as composer and lyricist Jerry Herman and choreographer and director Bill T. Jones. The honors will be presented on December 4th at a State Department dinner, hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The following evening, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will receive the Honorees at the White House prior to a star-studded gala performance to be held at the Kennedy Center Opera House. CBS will broadcast taped highlights of the gala performance on Tuesday, December 28th at 9:00 pm Eastern.
The Kennedy Center Honors salute recipients for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts. Honorees are selected by the Center's Board of Trustees. |
