Paul McCartney Earns Honorary Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame Induction
Music City is embracing a Beatle as one of their own. The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame recently extended an Honorary Induction to Paul McCartney. Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman Roger Murrah notes it makes sense to recognize the British rock legend, explaining, quote, "Creative exchanges constantly occur between music genres from around the world. In this way, Nashville songwriters have influenced Paul and, with his amazing body of work, Paul has certainly influenced Nashville songwriters." The event took place in Nashville earlier this summer. The Foundation marked the occasion by presenting McCartney with a glass plaque that reads, quote, "In celebration of the art of songwriting and the creative spirit shared by you and our members to which you have so richly contributed, we the board of directors do hereby present to you Sir Paul McCartney an Honorary Induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, July 26th, 2010."
Over the decades numerous country stars have recorded McCartney compositions. More than a dozen country singers have covered The Beatles' classic "Yesterday," including Willie Nelson, Marty Robbins, Tammy Wynette, Ray Price, Merle Haggard, Freddy Fender, and LeAnn Rimes. In 1989 Rosanne Cash had a number one hit with her rendition of The Beatles' "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party." Waylon Jennings, Reba McEntire, Dwight Yoakam, Dolly Parton, and Randy Travis have also performed songs from The Beatles or McCartney's solo catalog, as have Buck Owens, Kenny Rogers, Collin Raye, Kathy Mattea, the Zac Brown Band, and many others. |
